For example, the BoostPTE brand allows installation on two devices, but only one can be active simultaneously.

⇒ 1 device means one user

  • Per-User Licensing: Licenses software based on individual users rather than devices.

For example, MyPhoneApp allows one user to install the app on multiple devices (iOS and Android).

⇒ Users can use (install) with n devices. This is the maximum number of devices allowed.

The maximum number of devices allowed for a software license depends on the specific software and its licensing terms. Here are some common examples:

  • Microsoft 365: Typically allows installation on up to 5 devices per user (PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones) under a personal or family plan.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud allows installation on two devices, but you can only use it on one at a time.

  • Netflix: The number of devices that can stream simultaneously depends on the plan (e.g., Standard = 2 devices, Premium = 4 devices).

  • Google Workspace: No strict device limit, but it depends on the security policies set by the administrator.

  • Antivirus Software (Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky, etc.): Antivirus software usually allows 3 to 10 devices per license, depending on the plan.

  • Windows License (OEM & Retail): A Retail license can be transferred to another device, but an OEM license is tied to one device.
